Week 5 @ St Goretti's HSS

 8th August 2022

We are back at St Goretti's after a short weekend. Today, Joju sir visited us for class observation and gave us instructions on how to control mass answering in class. Also, we are supposed to complete all our portions by this week, so that teachers can conduct revisions for the students for the Onam exam. As usual, I had classes at 8D and 9C

Tuesday was a holiday due to Muharram. Today I taught multiplication of surds using the constructivist model. I was worried about its execution but the class went quite smoothly. At 8D, I'm almost done with the portions and I'll be conducting the achievement test on Friday.

11th August 2022

Today, we were given the responsibility of conducting the Independence Day programs at the school on the 15th of August. The teachers at the school gave some ideas on what the programs could be and suggested names of the students who would be apt for each program. We had planned 7 programs in total and 14 of us were divided into 7 groups to take responsibility for each item.

12th August 2022

Today, the class teachers selected students from their class for Independence Day programs, which lifted a huge weight off our shoulders as students initially were reluctant to participate. Sr Jeena and I were responsible for the 'Patriotic Song' program. Teachers from UP had selected students from various classes for the program and we just had to make sure that the students practised the songs well and showed up on time on the day of the program.

Day 31 of Online Classes

Today was the logo release and inauguration of the social science association. They have chosen the name 'ഐക്യ ' which means to become one. The name is a good reminder for these times where the world is divided in the name of religion, caste, race, resources etc.  The chief guest was Arya Rajendran, the  mayor  of Trivandrum and is the youngest (22 years) to hold that position. Felicitations were expressed by singers Mrs. Veena Haridas and Mr. Ravishankar. The surprising fact was that there were almost 100 participants throughout the program. The effort taken by each and everyone of the class (as well as from other classes) could be seen.

Coastline Paradox

Ever wondered how the perimeter of irregular surfaces (like coastlines, borders of a fern leaf) are measured and compared?  For example, let us consider a coastline, you can see that as we zoom in on the picture more irregularities pop up, there is no stage of zooming in where we'll finally reach a straight line. So, if I had to measure the coastline using a 15 cm scale, it'd obviously ignore the small irregularities which lie beyond the scope of a 15 cm scale. If I measure the coastline using a 5 cm scale, then it would accommodate comparatively more irregularities, as a result, the length of the same coastline will be more in this case. This means as the precision of the scale increases the length of the coastline increases. Comparison of coastlines between different regions becomes difficult due to this dilemma. This is known as the 'Coastline Paradox' or 'Richardson effect' and originally the problem was framed as, "How Long is the Coast of Britain?...

Theatre and Music

8th November 2021- 12 November 2021 Back to college after a week of model exams. This week was utilized to complete the remaining portions and to do the remaining activities. We the maths association was the only group left to do the presentation. Though we have been postponing it for a while, all 13 of us finally did it on 11th November. This week we had quick music and theatre workshops. In our music class, a few of us were randomly called on stage to either perform, the 'Saptha Swarangal' or any song of our choice. This was done to check our stage fright and spontaneity. All who were called did a fabulous job. Plus we did some vocal and breathing exercises which will help us in our future careers as busy teachers. In our theatre workshop, we did quite a few activities which helped us to get rid of our inhibitions that had built up during the online classes period. One of my favourite activities was where we walked around the room pretending to be a thing, person or animal w...
