Thunder, Rains and Floods

The heavy rains are back and forced us to spend another week at home attending online classes.  The week was really short and the classes were mostly concentrated on completing the remaining portions. In Joju sir's class we continued with our discussion on basic research and moved onto applied research. In Ancy ma'am's class we had a discussion on Human Rights. In optional hours we discussed about 'Curriculum' and the various principles involved in its making. This week we'll be having our Criticism classes, one of the most important practicals of this semester

Prime Numbers in Nature

Prime numbers are one of the easiest concepts to understand and learn in Maths. But some of the complex problems in Maths belong to this branch. Never would have imagined an application of prime numbers in nature. Thanks to the book 'Weird Maths: At The Edge of Infinity and Beyond' which introduced me to this along with other weird applications of Maths. There's a particular species type of cicadas found in the US called the Magicicada or the 'periodical cicadas' who stay in their larva for 13 or 17 years. Imagine staying inside for over a decade with no connection to the outside world and coming out in the year 2021. People wearing masks walking all around you, smartphones, oh, the shock!🤯 It is the primality of these numbers which interest the mathematicians. The reasons are quite interesting. As the lifecycle of the prey changes, the population cycle (pattern in the population for a period of time) of their predators also vary due to the change in the availabil

MathBytes - Work and Time

This is a small initiative by DIKSHA, math association of MTTC to help students, who find it difficult to solve math problems in competitive exams. I've chosen to focus on the 'Work & Time' problems, which have a wide array of problems under it. Hope this three-part video lesson (available on YouTube) covers most of it. A Tiny Week

Since the pooja holidays are starting on 14 October, we had a short week. This week we completed all the pending seminars in the optional classes. The topics included digital resources, online resources, e-twinning, m-learning etc. In Ancy ma'am's class we delved into 'Measures of Dispersion'. The seriousness of math problems were cut by fun musical performances by Aby, Sreekesh and Nikhil. This week we missed Giby ma'am's class. In Maya ma'am's class we discussed about the current problems of the higher education system in India. Also, we had our yoga test this week. The upcoming weeks are going to be hectic with criticism, MCQ test, model and finally exam.

Back to Campus!

Didn't know I would be able to say that 👆 in a long time. We had new timings (9.30-15.20) for the week, which I kinda like better than the old one (just because of the breaks).  This week in Joju sir's class we discussed about the 'Indicators of a Good Class' and had a small introduction to research. In Maya ma'am's class we went through some of the problems with pre-primary education in India. We began Giby ma'am's class with a congratulatory dance for the newly engaged and newly weds. Later we learnt about the types of motivation. In optional cla sses we had our seminar presentations and I must say with each seminar the Ppt slides are becoming more creative. Finally, in this week's Ancy ma'am's class I got back the feeling of sitting in a Math class. We did statistics problems throughout the week. Exams are approaching, submission deadlines are here and I'm in the middle of it all, unable to decide where to begin.
