65th College Union

 The day began with a prayer. The first hour was by Giby ma'am where she discussed about 'Adjustment vs Acceptance'. If we keep adjusting our life instead of accepting the situation we might get tired of it. Acceptance of others and our circumstances will help us to lead a more peaceful life.

During Maya ma'am's class we continued our discussion on humanism. We learned about Maslow's traingle of needs.

During the optional hours ma'am conducted microteaching  demonstrations. Today I completed both of my demonstrations. I got 'Skill of illustrating with examples' and 'Skill of stimulus variation'. I got few feedbacks from Aswathy and Archana, hopefully I'll able to make the necessary changes in my lesson plans. Later we selected to Sajin, Aleena and Aby as our representatives to the college union.

After our lunch break we had Joju sir's class where he gave a small presentation on visual aids. Later three repsentatives from each class took part in the election to select the members of the 65th College Union and Subinjit from natural science association was elected as the union chairman.

Day 31 of Online Classes

 Today was the logo release and inauguration of the social science association. They have chosen the name 'ഐക്യ ' which means to become one. The name is a good reminder for these times where the world is divided in the name of religion, caste, race, resources etc.  The chief guest was Arya Rajendran, the  mayor  of Trivandrum and is the youngest (22 years) to hold that position. Felicitations were expressed by singers Mrs. Veena Haridas and Mr. Ravishankar. The surprising fact was that there were almost 100 participants throughout the program. The effort taken by each and everyone of the class (as well as from other classes) could be seen.  

Prime Numbers in Nature

 Prime numbers are one of the easiest concepts to understand and learn in Maths. But some of the complex problems in Maths belong to this branch. Never would have imagined an application of prime numbers in nature. Thanks to the book 'Weird Maths: At The Edge of Infinity and Beyond' which introduced me to this along with other weird applications of Maths. There's a particular species type of cicadas found in the US called the Magicicada or the 'periodical cicadas' who stay in their larva for 13 or 17 years. Imagine staying inside for over a decade with no connection to the outside world and coming out in the year 2021. Coastline Paradox

 Ever wondered how the perimeter of irregular surfaces (like coastlines, borders of a fern leaf) are measured and compared?  For example, let us consider a coastline, you can see that as we zoom in on the picture more irregularities pop up, there is no stage of zooming in where we'll finally reach a straight line. So, if I had to measure the coastline using a 15 cm scale, it'd obviously ignore the small irregularities which lie beyond the scope of a 15 cm scale. If I measure the coastline using a 5 cm scale, then it would accommodate comparatively more irregularities, as a result, the length of the same coastline will be more in this case. This means as the precision of the scale increases the length of the coastline increases. Comparison of coastlines between different regions becomes difficult due to this dilemma.
